Dot Grid Paper
A subtle grid of dots instead of solid lines — the go-to layout for bullet journals, hand-lettering, and freeform sketching that still wants gentle alignment guides.

Why choose dots over lines?
Dot grid paper gives you the same alignment help as a square grid — straight text, evenly spaced boxes, consistent margins — without the visual weight of full lines running across the page. Because dots occupy far less ink than continuous lines, drawings, handwriting, and diagrams sit on top of the grid without fighting it for attention. This is exactly why dot grid is the standard layout for bullet journals (the Bujo method), habit trackers, and hand-lettering practice, and it's popular with architects and designers for quick concept sketches.
Choosing a dot spacing
5 mm is the most common bullet-journal spacing — tight enough for detailed layouts, loose enough to write between rows comfortably. If you want more room per line, switch to 1/4 inch (about 6.35 mm) or 1/5 inch. For very fine technical sketching, 2 mm gives a much denser reference grid. All of these are available as one-click presets above, and the dot size scales automatically with the "Line width" setting so tighter grids don't look cluttered.
Printing your own dotted notebook pages
Print a stack of pages at Actual Size / 100% scale and hole-punch or bind them yourself — a cheap way to build a custom-sized dot journal that matches whatever cover or binder you already own. Because the PDF is vector-based, dots stay crisp and perfectly round no matter your printer's resolution.
What dot spacing is best for a bullet journal?
5 mm is the most common bullet-journal spacing — tight enough for detailed layouts, loose enough to write between rows. It's the preset this page loads by default.
What's the difference between dot grid and square grid paper?
Dot grid gives the same alignment help as a square grid — straight text, even boxes — with far less ink on the page, so handwriting and drawings sit on top of the grid instead of competing with solid lines. For a full square grid, see the Graph Paper Generator.
Can I make a finer dot grid for technical sketching?
Yes, switch spacing to 2 mm for a denser reference grid; the dot size scales automatically with the Line Width setting so tighter grids don't look cluttered.
Can I generate A4 dot grid paper?
Yes, use the Paper Size dropdown to switch between US Letter, A4, Legal, and A5.
